Walking rates as one of the most popular workouts. It's easy, convenient and a great way to keep off extra weight, but all too often there are obstacles that prevent you from enjoying this activity -- or so you think.
  • Obstacle 1: I work all day and can't fit a walk into my busy schedule -- It only takes about 30 minutes a day to keep you in good cardiovascular health. It's OK to break those 30 minutes into chunks of 10 or 15 throughout the day. Try taking a 10-minute loop around the block before you shower or walking the dog a little longer. If you think you are too tired after a day of work, have a light snack and a glass of water before you lace up. You will be surprised what a "pick-me-up" a good, brisk walk can be.
  • Obstacle 2: The only way that I can walk is to drag my kids along and they walk too slow to get a good workout -- First, get a stroller for the little ones. If your kids are over stroller age aim for a longer walk. Also, try making it a competition. It's easy to get your kids to pick up the pace when you "time them" to see how fast they can get to the next street light or driveway. You may even find yourself having to speed up to catch up ... Summer just naturally calls us to get outside and enjoy a dose of fresh air and sunshine along with our workout. If your exercise has been limited to inside a gym, whether it's public or in your basement, you need a change of scenery. Take it outside and enjoy some of those old-fashioned summer exercises that have withstood the test of time.
  • Walking -- If you're lucky enough to live near a park or river, start your walk there. If you haven't been exercising in a long time, begin with short distances and walk at a comfortable pace. Bring water and wear comfortable, sturdy walking shoes. Extend your distance a little each day.
  • Running -- If you spend most of your gym time on a treadmill, it's time to go for a real run. Get your heart pumping and work up a fair sweat to get a great workout. Run early in the morning and you'll feel better all day. Avoid running in mid-day when the sun is hot.
  • Tennis -- You don't have to be a pro to enjoy tennis. Grab a gym buddy and plan at least one night a week to spend on the court. If you have children who are old enough to learn, bring them along and pass a few balls over the net for family ... (Full article is not published here.)

Animal and vegetable are the two major types of proteins. Too much animal protein can cause high cholesterol, as it is high in saturated fat.
